Travel blog: Batam Trip 3D2N

Hello everybodey,

It's been quite awhile since I last updated this blog! Thank you for your faithfulness in reading this blog space although it's pretty dead. However, I am amazed to find out that my readership view still increase day to day! (probably 20-30views per day but good enough for a dead blog)

Planned an impromptu trip again to Batam with boyfriend! I love going to Indonesia because it's cheap and there's so many things to explore about. We didn't buy any groupon deal unlike the previous trip with my clique because we wanted have the luxury and time to pamper ourselves with good food, shopping without having the need to rush. I cannot forget how the last trip we kept rushing to places, from golden prawn restaurant eat fast fast chop chop for 15mins then limited one hour shopping and spa. I have compiled some of the great tips that we used during our 3D2N Trip to Batam, which definitely will be super useful!!!

Some quick tips before you go Batam!

I think luck is really on our side. Initially, we wanted to book our ferry tickets on groupon two way for $40 but we backed out because we couldn't call through the service helpline. Then we tried booking other ferries like Pacific/BatamFast/sindo ferry but their booking website too tedious for payment. I offered to travel down to Harbourfront ferry centre and HOOLA wavemaster having promotion!! 2 WAY TICKET FOR $25 (valid till 9 august 2014) and I quickly purchase both tickets. It's really way too cheap considering we're travelling on Hari Raya, public holiday. Tip 1:  If you've time, you can travel down yourself and book at their ferry counters on spot. If I'm not mistaken, some of them are offering discount $10off* if you flash your NTUC/Passion card. Save money for shopping!!

Tip 2:
Do research on the places you want to go before booking any hotel on the internet. You can check out https://www.thecrazytourist.com/15-best-things-batam-indonesia/ for the things to do in Batam. We're really lucky to able to book a hotel near to shopping malls, daily flea market and 10mins walk to ever famous Nagoya Hill Shopping Mall. Do check time to time for their exclusive promotions eg. Double bed room for only $50SGD per night something like that. We booked Panorama Regency Hotel (4star hotel in Batam) Total cost: $124 for 2 nights

In Batam

Yay! Our ferry arrives and we all queued up to enter the ferry to Batam. The ride to Batam was pretty smooth however we had a crazy time queueing at Batam checkpoint for 2 hours and everybody was squeezing their way through.

Mandatory selfee with dear who loves me so much :)

In the ferry with comfortable seats and amazing sea view from the window! Fell asleep within an hour cause really too comfortable to be sleeping on dear's arms. Hahaha.

We supposed to reached Batam and clear the immigration checkpoint at 130pm but was delayed till almost 3pm... walked over to the big mega mall (just cross the overhead bridge from the batam ferry terminal) and had pizza hut for our lunch! Look at the menu slurps slurps.

Majority of the pasta cost $5-8 per plate. Worth it because it's delicious!!!!!!!

The food doesn't look as appetising because I didn't bring a good camera haha oooops!

Tip 3
Do not be deceived by their taxi fares in Batam! Majority of the people trying earn money from tourists, especially singaporeans. Do ask around for their rates and if you can, take taxi from outside than shopping malls. They usually charge 50,000RP-60,000RP for short distance which it's extremely not worth it. On first day we took their price but subsequently, all our taxi fares cost 35,000RP and below. Try to negotiate if possible! ;)

Checked into Paranoma Hotel. Really big bed for 4 person instead of 2.

What I'm most satisfied about! The gorgeous view of Nagoya right outside our hotel!!! Can't express how happy am I because our location is too DAMN GOOD OHYAY

Walked to nearby shopping mall and there's like a mini amusement park. Majority of the rides cost $2.50 and you save more if you top up by purchasing their arcade cards.

Pardon for the blurry pictures.

AND OHHHHH I REALLY LOVE THEIR ARCADE! Each game cost 30c only damn cheap or what HAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAAHHA Must to play in Batam! We just kept spamming their slot games to try our luck. (note: very very addictive)

We walked around ourselves which it's quite dangerous, considering there are motorcyclists and cars everywhere. There's this small hawker centre selling seafood, kuay tiao noodles and ayam peyak chicken. Guess how much we bought our stingray for? .......... for $2 per piece OMG.

Yum yum yum. We get to choose what we wanted and we bought 8 pieces of stingray and 2 packet of rice back to hotel.

1 packet of satay which tasted horrible............. I never tasted any satay which includes chicken fats, beef organs other than the meat itself. Felt really damn cheated, but still pretty cheap! Word of advice: be careful when you purchase your satays. There are a few stalls selling the same ones.

Our spread!!! That concludes our dinner for the night. The stingrays damn damn delicious.

Day 2:

RISEEE AND SHINE!!!! Beautiful view from our room!!

At 8am, majority of the people set up their own tents and stuffs ready to sell!!! Got me really excited because you'll never get to experience such thing if you travel with tour agencies. Woke dear up and off we go to see what they sell in their flea markets!

YAY with my messy hair

Wore our couple tee together that I bought for our 6th month! :) :)

Wow. They really sell everything, even army t-shirts, singapore marathon shirts which I've no idea where they get from. The streets are bustling with people and the items are pretty cheap! I can't really remember but dear bought 2 pair of sandles ($4 each) while I bought 2 shirt ($3 each) 1 shorts ($2.50) and a pair of shoes ($3)

Btw you won't be able to get anything new here, however the shirt, shoes are in good condition. Some, even selling branded goods like zara, f21 stuffs at less than <$5

It strikes me that the people there are living in poverty and majority of them work at a young age. They don't mind sitting in corners with mud, dirty water or rubbish areas. I've learn to appreciate life more and be grateful to our country.

Damn cool riding on those motorbikes in Batam hahahah. Dear wanted to rent them again haha

At night we bought fireworks tubes (4 tubes for $10) from the night market and prepare to set them at Harbourbay. Didn't really bargain much for the fireworks cause we're running out of time before the seafood restaurants closes. I've heard of many good reviews of their seafood quality and the variety and indeed, it's true! Ordered this spread total cost =$30. WOOHOO CHEAAAAP. We ordered  half kilo salted egg crab, mussels, dou miao and the big stingray. Really nice meal by the sea :)

OMG PREPARING TO SET THE FIREWORKS!!!!!!!!

Click to watch them! :)

Dear was so worried cause the tube kept vibrating when the fireworks is out. My super brave dear :-) Everyone was clapping for us until no more hahahhahahahaha

Day3

DAY 3 WAS BAD CAUSE OF HARI RAYA HAHAHA
Haha shop all close, missed our breakfast hotel buffet and the roads damn quiet. Seems like everybody is celebrating this festive season at home with their families. Walked and walked, finally came across this wet market hawker centre with only few noodle stall operating. Ordered Mie Ayam and Mie Sop Ayam for our breakfast! :)

Yum yum $1.50 per bowl inclusive of mineral water. The soup rather tasty!!

Went to visit this small boy who touched my leg haha. Value drop lollollol Dear visited their shop again to buy his briefs before off they went to celebrate Hari Raya! ;)

Finally it's time for us to go back to Singapore. We wanted to take taxi but this friendly uncle offered to send us to the Batam Ferry Centre at 20,000RP! So three of us on motobike.... really dangerous but it's a good experience!!! ;) By the way during our trip to Nagoya Hill mall to BCS mall, two really nice guys offered to drove us with their car for free! Lucky us.

Saying cheeeseeeee

Oh yes don't be deceived by the stall. Haha they are selling really cheap steaks for $1.50 and they taste DAMN GOOD. Small portion but good enough! ;)

Food is here!!! The kway teow taste damn delicious.

Dear's favourite spaghetti topped with BBQ chicken for $4!

We bought boxes of maggie goreng home and some frozen chicken and seafood home. Reached singapore at around 7pm and dear came to my house awhile before he booked in for army. That concluded our whole trip... and.......

Just want to specially thank you, my dear for pampering me throughout this Batam trip, offering a short relax massage cause I'm feeling exhausted from all the shopping and all massage parlours closed for Hari Raya!! You're best and this marks the end of our adventure to Batam together! It was definitely the best and not the last. Thank you for loving me so deep <3 love you dear :)

xoxo can't wait for 19days later...........

HAHAHA actually, its pretty near our hotel paronama actually and the stretch of flea market we talked about. (5-10minutes walk) It's like a small area with some hawker food and tables. Its not at Nagoya hill batam!!!! but nearby also. Behind in fact.

Great article so good to see tourists using the local street stores to get in among the local atmosphere rather than just using the larger malls. You probably got better bargains at the street stalls.
