Before the local university applications start, I was so confident that I'm going overseas to pursue my studies at either UK or Australia. So I went down to various education fairs and IDP education- FYI IDP is sort of like a study oversea consultant where they will brief you on various oversea schools and how to secure a spot by ensuring you submit your school's testimonials, grades and your particulars. Actually I don't think all this matters as long as you've the money to study.

But after getting both acceptance to University of Melbourne and University of Queensland (both bachelor of Commerce), I was confused. I need to be mentally prepared that I'll be carrying a study debt of $104,000-$107,000 excluding my living allowance and expenses. What's worse is that, that doesn't guarantee you with a job here/good pay once you fly back here. Based on what i heard, there are companies that offer graduates with $2,100 but that isn't attractive at all because diplomas in Singapore are gradually hitting the mark of $2,000 according to st.jobs. It doesn't seem feasible to enjoy first than to suffer later because I would want to have a stable income support for my family. Really can't imagine myself paying for overseas debt (amount to total $150,000) at the same time dreaming of getting a car, a proper house to stay and paying all government taxes like water bills, electricity etc. My parents are getting old......urgh so selfish of me to do so.

However if I accept to study abroad, I will definitely be faster than my peers who are about to study in university. My bachelor degree will take 2.5 years, exempted 0.5 years of modules that I've previously taken back in poly. University of Queensland offer the same number of years and the study fees unfortunately the same as well. But I know that business was definitely something I'm interested in, based on the modules that I scored extremely well e.g. International business, Management principals.


So back to the local universities (which my parents still prefer me to), gotten acceptance to SMU Information Management System by luck and grades. I honestly don't think i cut for the interview because my system design was a flop. Everyone was presenting in most technical way from how users will prompt the web application by using drop down list and having an administration portal to administer the bookings, the comments from customers, but I explained the entire design randomly with business tactics on how to attract customers to book rooms in the website. Embarrassment. Truth to be told, SMU is known for it's muggish elite kind-of the students and I'm really afraid that I won't be able to survive in such competitiveness. Having Saturdays and Sundays to spend in school for the rest of 4 years is crazy......As for NTU, I guessed my admission to FASS- Sociology and Public Global and Public Affairs was unsuccessful which explains why I received interview call from NIE to be a Chinese teacher for primary school. The only concern was the bond with ministry of education and of course, the kids don't benefit from a teacher like me. I'm still young to confirm my path as a teacher......

oh god what should I do. I'm really skeptical about my future and I'm not given the choice I really want for. "When life gives you lemon, you made lemonade right?" But i don't want to squeeze lemon for the rest of my life, but here I am tied up with choices..


Regardless, I'm really thankful that with a mere GPA of 3.62 I am able to secure at least a university spot in various schools, locally and overseas. Can't thank enough how much my Microsoft internship pulled up my grades as well as the wonderful business tutors that coached us well. As well as IT project supervisors with exception of 1 haha (won't mention who) for supervision. It's amazing how I survived through 3 years of poly and this will mark the last lap of education of my life.
