Beijing Travel Blog: Gubei Water Town

So amazing to be able to witness this after a heavy downpour in Hebei Province.

Travelling time: 2 hours
Beijing City- Miyu Hebei
Over the weekend, Zan came over to Beijing to visit me! We bought the bus tickets from Alibaba travel known as 阿里旅行 (subsidiary of Taobao) for 88 RMB (Around $17 per person) because travelling there via bus route would cost us time since the travelling will take 3 hours plus approximately.  Taking bus and switching subway rides is really okay, but what is really crazy is the 65 bus stops we would have to take if we are heading there! Definitely a big no-no for me to waste almost the entire day in bus.
The admission ticket cost us 150rmb ($30 SGD) and does not include all the activities inside. Bought the ticket to the great wall at Simaitai and both way cable car ticket for another ($32) abit heartpain but it is all worth it- having to experience light rain with thunderous sky on top of the great wall and soaking our dirty cold feets in the hot spring lol. Funny how we started the trend and everyone followed us! 40 degree hot water with our ponchos.
Was really contemplating hard whether to get down or wait for the rain to stop and then we'll continue walking towards all the different towers of great wall. End up we stood there for less than an hour and got down to the water town. Went to various places, from hilltop churches to Yue Lao Miao (Deity of Marriage). He was known for arranging marriages and finding a good match as your spouse.

I respected chinese custom so I didn't take picture of the inner temple and the statue of Yue Lao. You have to pay 10RMB to shake the sticks with numbers and exchange for a note that shows either 上签or下签, got a 上上签 apparently she said I am blessed with people that would help me in the future and my marriage would be a blissful one. Thank god, but I kinda guessed that everything inside the box might be all 上签 or else who knows you might ruined a person's day right????
My super good qian with the breathtaking view of Gubei Water town.
This dress doesn't belong to me LOL. Swapped a pair of shorts with zan for this dress cause she couldn't fit it perfectly but she claimed I could. My friend is a good photographer!
Love the koi fishes and the wind catcher. Though Gubei is a newly reconstructed place that resembles the authentic one in zheng jiang, they really make alot effort in the similarity and of course decorations of kites, fishes, lanterns and cloths.
Walked pass this couple-ish place and we decides to take a photo!
Things here not cheap either. Per boat ride (100rmb) and the food quite expensive. But the view, worth it!!
Handmade kites

Love chinese culture and the characters.

super loving father and the son with the sugar coated bing tang hu lu.
 Trying act classy~
super big kite!! love this shot.
Chives and pork dumplings for two of us.
In the cable car waiting to go up! This is the most comfortable cable car I ever sat?! There's a robot voice in english, the seats were in leather and the cable car were totally brand new. But of course for the price tourists paid for, no doubt they have such great facilities and mode of travel up the great wall.

In beijing there are 6 great wall that stretched entire of china which the more popular ones are Badaling, Mutianyu, SimaiTai, JingShanLing (which you can read at beijing here!) and gubei water town is originally a small village that was situated just the foot of the great wall. The villages farmed there, lived there until investors and government came offering them.. money to shift to another village to stay.

Majority of the villages received two story shophouse and apartment, with regular income flowing from tourists when they book rooms or dine in their place once the Gubei water town is built. They are all super rich now. But I wouldn't recommend anyone heading there to go there first before covering the main tourist attractions in Beijing such as Forbidden City, Tian An men, Temple of Heaven. It would make more sense to go for the real one in Zhengjiang unless you intend to cover both Great Wall and the water town together. Really a gorgeous view at night.

Also, remember to book your staycation few weeks in advance because when we got there, all the rooms were occupied. Damn sian cause they are famous for their night lights and performances. Just two more weeks to end of Internship and my trip in Beijing. Really a eyeopener and if you're super super onz with those chinese ancient dramas of palaces or and a lover for beautiful scenery then you should totally come here! Thank you beautiful Beijing for everything.
