KTX to Run on Gyeonggang Line (for those travelling to Korea in February)

Great news everyone!
Now travelling to PyeongChang/Gangneung only take 2 hours!!

KTX on Gyeonggang Line departs from Seoul Station and Cheongnyangni Station, with all Seoul Station departing trains making a stop at Cheongnyangni Station. It is currently planned to run 18 times a day from Monday to Thursday and 26 times a day from Friday to Sunday, making it possible to carry an average of 19,000 passengers. Train tickets to Gangneung Station will cost 27,600 won from Seoul Station and 26,000 won from Cheongnyangni Station. The KTX ticket fees are considered inexpensive compared to other transportation options and their travel time (Cheongnyangni Station-Jeongdongjin Station on Mugunghwa train, 21,100 won).
Additional operations will be made during the PyeongChang 2018 period for the convenience of visitors attending the Olympic events. Visitors who were not able to book an accommodation nearby the event venue can take the KTX to travel conveniently between the venue and other regions.
Take note that passengers who make advanced purchase of the KTX tickets for the new Gyeonggang Line for the period of February 1 to 28 of next year will get a 20% off from the original ticket price. The tickets will be available for purchase beginning from December 1 on a first-come, first-served basis; details regarding the tickets are available on Korail’s official website. However, do note that tickets during Seollal (Lunar New Year’s Day) holiday period from February 14 to 18 will be available according to a separate notice to be announced by Korail.

In addition, KTX running on Gyeonggang Line will expand its route to transfer passengers from Incheon International Airport Terminal 2 to Gangneung during the whole month of February, running 16 times daily, allowing international tourists to head straight to Pyeongchang upon their arrival in Korea.
Korea Tourism Organization and Korail have also joined to release a foreigner-exclusive PyeongChang Korail Pass as the only train pass for taking KTX running on Gyeonggang Line. The pass also offers special privileges to the pass holders during the Olympic period (February 1- March 25, 2018). The pass is currently available for advance purchase until January 10, 2018.
Cool Benefits:
  • Pyeongchang Korail Pass Advance Purchase Benefits (purchase period Oct. 10, 2017-Jan. 10, 2018)
  • 1. Free issue of Rail+ transportation card
  • 2.  5,000 won card load
  • 3. Free city tour pass for anywhere in Korea
  • - PyeongChang Korail Pass can be used for any Korail trains including Gyeonggang Line KTX
  • (Other train passes cannot be used for Seoul-Gangneung KTX during the Olympic and Paralympic period, from Feb. 1-Mar.25, 2018)
  • - PyeongChang Korail Pass passengers can make seat reservations two months in advance for Gyeonggang KTX during the Olympic period (Feb. 1-28). Seat reservations for all other trains are available one month in advance.
  • - Ticket sales for all trains during Seollal (Lunar New Year’s Day) holiday period (Feb. 14-18, 2018) will be announced separately on the Korail website.

Hope this is useful for those to travelling to Korea in the month of Feb.
