Beijing Travel Blog

Week 1!

So Saturday, I bid my good friends farewell and heading to Chaoyang Beijing, China Internship! Trust me it isn't a easy decision because it involves a lot of independence, determination and faith that you will be fine alone in a foreign country adapting well and handling your laundry and finances well. It was so hard to do some updates because china blocks every access to Google (I have no idea why they so against them) and also facebook!

Thankfully I downloaded this greenVPN (trial version) that allows me to update every 20minutes and cut off cause free account LOL it was supposed to be trial version but aiya just utilise it to do some updates. Guys trust me it will be so useful because you can keep connecting for free! Just that it will keep disconnecting unless you purchase their account which is like 18rmb/month ($3.50/month)

They were really sweet bunch. Like laying hands and praying for my safety, wisdom and most importantly favour in workplace! Very very fortunate to have know them since my days in church and majority of them rushed down after emerge service just to send this dear friend off.

And of course, someone special who packs my luggage and ensuring that I bring sufficiently to Beijing! Thank you dear :)

Time flies and 12.10 I have to board the boarding gate. Really mixed feelings like how would everything turn out, so worried about getting lost or robbed/raped HAHA I am that paranoid because I have never travelled before! Really lonely flight I must say but it's a great experience I guess.
And SQ flights really the best. The food, entertainment and I always crave for their apple juice. It taste so magically nice. They even gave us towel and pillow for us to sleep. I think I damn long never take good airlines, kept taking those budget ones like scoot, Jetstar to save on budget :(

So at 7.15am, I touched down Beijing International Airport and it was really a total torture dragging a big luggage trying to use free wifi hotspot in airport but isn't working and sim card!!! Thank god didn't get my sim card that or else I wouldn't be able to purchase my 套餐 for the various mobile package. Called my dad for temporary roaming from Singtel to be able to whatsapp zichao. Thank god afterwards I was able to find out and she brought me to get my own data card. Just go to any china mobile shop and they will be glad to assist you.

Beautiful Beijing!

I arranged the apartment from airbnb and IT IS TOTALLY ONE OF THE BEST DECISION!! The couple is really nice to cook me breakfast every morning and they have a cat named pro, who is three month old this year. They agreed to waived off airbnb service fee and I was truly grateful cause it saved me $100 sgd??! Tip: Negotiate with your airbnb host to pay for a week and then pay them rest in cash. At your own risk and negotiation

The transportation and the neighbourhood generally quite safe, with exceptional some weird neighbours staring at you strangely. I was thankful to be able to stay in CBD district area. Can you believe that my place to workplace is just 5 minutes?! Not mentioning that the transportation fee is 1 RMB, which means 20 cents to work everyday. I paid like $19/day for this airbnb apartment, got a cat for accompany, nice friends and breakfast everyday. Not bad right?!?!

Let me know if you are keen to book this airbnb! (Not the host say one hor hahahaha)

My first meal in Beijing, 宫宝鸡 in yoshinoya bowl like that, Cost around 30 rmb that comes with soya milk and salad (6 dollars) afterwards all my food were bought around my neighbourhood, which is super super cheap and nice?!?!?

Meet my awesome friend Zichao! Honestly I don't think I will be able to adapt well without her. She brought me for lunch, accompanied me to get my bank card, settled my data card, transportation card and everything. She's such a gem and I promise to meet her everyday to go school together if she's gonna stay at hougang hahahaha she's such a awesome awesome friend :-)

Goodbye Singapore :(

So went to explored around the neighbourhood and found out so many nice food. By the way, I've gained 2kg and I didn't even realise? Had a shock out of my life when I found out. I think I will probably run in the park tomorrow to get rid of the extra fats. Really Beijing food is too awesome and cheap!

That's my bed, luggage and even a ukelele and snacks corner. How thoughtful they are.

So almost everyday I'll buy from this lady to eat lok lok, stands for soup stewers cause it's spicy and taste so good! This craving came from days when I'm schooling at Nanyang Polytechnic where my clique always purchase after school. Love the golden mushroom, the potatoes and the chewy oyster mushroom.
Order any 6 for 6rmb. Technically one piece is like 20 cents and you can order as many as you want! Even noodles, beef or more vegetable. She'll cook for you and topped up with either chilli sauce or sesame sauce.

So every morning I'll get eggs with smiley bread, so cute right my host!

They even brought me to their uncle house who brought his boyfriend up. It was such a heartedly chat talking about our trips to Bangkok, Japan. And we ate so many beijing dumplings! So they kinda interested to know that about my instagram account cause in China Wechat and QQ dominate everything else. Oh yes, 支付宝 known as Alipay is so so convenient because you can call delivery or grab a taxi easily!

This is my apartment view. Really nice right!!!! :)

The living room.

The guitar and the snacks.

And on the second day I ordered beef with onion! Tasted so good and delicious, and cheap!!

View from my apartment again

Pro that everyone sees on my snapchat LOL

Bought this curry puff looking thing ended up to be chives with noodles and egg. Quite nice!! Except the filling is a little cold but thank god didn't get any tummy upset or anything.

So on the third day I decided to be more adventurous. I went to approach the salon to ask about their pricing for highlights. I remembered was 150rmb and it was definitely well spent!! Look at how prominent my highlights were and curled too.

Really love the hair colour now and the little strands of golden inbetween my hair!
Love Beijing so much, especially the dumplings and the people around here. Have I mention that I love clams?!?!? I have never eaten clam that tasted like oyster and clam, so juicy and nice. I was having this conversation with zichao.

Celine; How come everything so cheap! Melon only cost 4RMB!
zichao: Cause is china. Not china imported.

HAHAHA and today is children's day! All of us in office received a bag of lollipops from the company. Got a shocked when the receptionist gave all of us.

And pretty much week one is down soon. Will update more about my Beijing trip, stay tuned!
