Bejing Travel Blog: Great Wall of China

There's a famous great wall of china too- at Badaling Great Wall where most of the tourists will flock there especially during public holidays and it is easily accessible within Beijing itself. However, I didn't want to have my great wall pictures filled with tourists, so Jing Shan ling here I am! It was constructed under the direction of general Xu Da in 1348 during the Ming Dynasty.

Some of the parts are rebuilt and the bricks were laid nicely while there are parts that are totally the ruins of the great wall that shows how magnificent it was.
The ride from Beijing to Hebei Province will take approximately 2 hours one way and 13 yuan in total. You can take from Wang Jing West Subway Station and head to exit where there is a bus terminal with a big banner "Tourist bus to JinShanLing Great Wall" however note that the bus only operates one timing, 8:00 am and 3.00pm back. Therefore be sure to get there early so that you wouldn't miss your bus to the Great Wall! Was so tired the previous day that I fell asleep throughout.

That was after experiencing the hailstorm (ice cubes and rain) with my SMU friends, shivering in the cold weather of 21 degrees and all drenched. However it was a pretty good experience because I have never experience anything of such sort and thank god we stole a board that shelters us from the construction side to the place we wanted to go. And after rain, it seems like the clouds are back! Previously in Beijing there's always bad pollution and hardly you can ever see the clouds. The rain cleared the hazy sky!
And luckily, it falls on World Heritage Day and all entrances to all the heritage sites like great wall, summer palace are either free-of-charge or at half price! I didn't have much time to spare there cause I couldn't afford to miss the bus back to Beijing and pay those expensive cab taxi fares again. So, I decided to take a cable car up to save the time from hiking up and more time exploring the great wall!

By the way I realise my shoes not for trekking. Had blue blacks on my toe nails (blood clot I guess) and dealt with the pain while climbing up and with my fear of heights. It was definitely way less scarier then climbing up yun shan but the fear you have while looking down it's real.
The sky is really beautiful! Temperature is great and there are so many different kind of flowers growing at the side of the garden.
Many tourists, majority locals are here for a visit!
They were offering 20RMB for a horse photo and ride. Quite an experience actually but I would want to save it for my future trips to elsewhere where there are more gorgeous scenery!
Beautiful hills and clouds. The cable car ride cost 60RMB for both ways and I climbed on the side of the walls for a picture. Thankful for the great weather, random strangers who smiled at me :')
One of the paths that led to somewhere. Not really sure where, but really really don't have the energy to trek actually. HAHAHAHA
Gorgeous gorgeous view!
You can never get tired of the beautiful view at the peak of the mountains :)
The nicely built paths and walls.
One of the watchtowers where they spy at their enemies. At the side is Hebei Province and anothher side is Beijing! So Beijing being the capital of the city, they have to protect the 匈奴人 from attacking their city that's why this great wall is built. But how do the soldiers even run!? Some of the paths are uneven and have steep slopes, they probably fall if they run too quick. It's quite sad that most of them have to leave their hometown to built this.

The place is also known as the longest cemetery on earth because so many people died building this. Just imagine hanging on ropes or 'built ladders' to cover the bricks with layers of cements. Reportedly the wall cost the lives of one million people.
The remaining ruins of the great wall. Recently it was also reported that parts of the wall resurfaced from the ocean! You can view this if you are interested: click here!
They actually informed tourists to caution, where the ruined parts of great wall ahead. Quite cute!!
More scenery of the great wall. I realise most people are really really friendly to help you take photographs or offer to help! Like I've seen people asking and I've asked while on travel to places and they are really friendly. Used to worry whether they'll steal my phone.......
Part of the ruins again.
And that's the end of the trip! The fun part of being a local here is always taking their buses, subways to travel at your own leisure time and exploring the places. But I'm honestly honestly homesick now. I miss home so much especially my bed.
So be sure to head Jing San Ling instead of Baidaling if you don't wish to have your pictures spam with tourists or stucked in the middle. I actually went there when I was in secondary school! It was okay except everywhere was people, guides with tour flags and many many gift shops and locals trying their best to ask you to join their tours.

see what I mean. HAHAHAHAHA hope you enjoy it!
